Manufacturing products, such as plastics and some fabrics, have vital oil-based ingredients. While the absolute volumes of oil consumed are relatively small, the prices of the products for sale in the shops are directly affected by the cost and availability of oil. The whole manufacturing industry is heavily energy-dependent.

Investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency offer a healthy and more sustainable return, helping to deliver a solution to our pressing economic challenges by getting British manufacturing and construction back to work, forestalling recession. To gain maximum economic benefit and to ensure a secure supply of renewable generation technologies we should train a large, skilled workforce and manufacture a substantial proportion of this green energy technology within the UK.
